Startled, you turn toward a soft chuckling sound comming from your right. You blink as you realize the tall and slender man, standing within arms. reach, got there whithout you even noticing it. You look up at his face. He is, quite simply, the most beautiful man you have ever seen. His dark redish hair is long, held back from his face by a narrow red leather headband. His weathered face is made from stony planes and angles. He turns his head to meet your gaze, his sharp, penetrating grey eyes burn with a fierce light. He seems to be weighing you in his mind, but there is no sign on his face of what the scales told him. He answers your stare with a gracious nod, and moves away from you Although tall and slender, his movements speak of whipcord strenght and sure confidence. A white banner ripples to its full lenght due to the moving. A figure like a serpent, scaled in scarlet and gold, runs the entire lenght, but it has scaled legs, and feet with five long, golden claws on each, and a great head with a golden mane and eyes like the sun. The stirring of the banner makes it seem to move, alive, and you almost think you could hear it roar in defiance... Dracos has a special twinkle in his eye. Dracos is in perfect health. You hear the familiar soft rustling sound of the web parting. A tall, slender man stands in the entrance and looks around carefully. His gaze finally locks with Yours and he nods, as if convincing himself. He steps through the web and moves further into the temple, You can think of nothing but a wolf to describe his movements. He halts right in the center of the sigla, one foot on the Claw, one on the Teardrop, makes a formal bow and says; "Mother of the Chosen, Lady of House An-Shalach, Mistress of Fate, Weaver Incarna... I came to swear fealty to You." His commanding voice booms through the temple.
You raise your eyebrow in response and look questioningly.
"Ah yes, this might come as a surprise, let me explain by telling You about some recent events, but where to start..,"
You say "Start at the beginning," and after a moment of silence he nods, and starts his story.
"I was raised by my father Cei, a simple peace-loving farmer then, loyal to the ruling house of Ofcol. My mother died when I was very young. My father would never talk about how she died, but he told me enough to know he still loved her dearly, and how she had loved me. All I remember about my mother was her gentle touch... and her name; Deva"
"In his younger years, my father had been a part of the army of the seven kingdoms. That army was sent to fight the savages from the great eastern desert who invaded these lands. He told me he had become a blademaster through the years of fighting, and wanted me to at least be able to defend myself. He tried to teach me how 'to dance with the sword' but back then, I never understood or wanted to learn."
"One day, when I was 17 years old, my father fell ill. He went to bed early, to sleep it off, but overnight, the fever grew. I heard him moan in his sleep and he felt burning hot. I got scared and all I could think of, was to get him to the city so the priests could tend him there." He frowns and shakes his head. "It seemed the only way, he was burning up. I laid my father in our cart, put some blankets over him, and pulled the cart the whole night, to Ofcol. During the journey, my father was having fever-dreams. Most of the time he was just murmuring, but sometimes he spoke loud enough to understand;
"..battles are always hot, even in the snow. Sweat heat. Blood heat. Only death is cool. Slope of the mountain...only place didn't stink of death. Away from the smell of it... sight of it...heard a baby cry. Their women fight alongside the men...why had she come, I don't unders....gave birth alone, before she died of her wounds... child, blue with the cold...should have been dead too...crying. Crying in the snow...I couldn't just leave a child...no children of our own...always knew you wanted children. I knew you'd take it to your heart, Deva. Yes, lass. Dracos is a good name...a good name...."
"Then my legs lost the little strength they had left," Dracos says softly, as if talking to himself. He has his blade out, testing the edge with his thumb. "light, who am I?" Studying his blade, Dracos coughs and continues
"One hour before dawn, I arrived at the gates of Ofcol, still closed against the dangers of the night. I yelled to the dragonguards to open the gates, but the laughed at me, told me to get my 'peasant-father' home. Wishing I had paid more attention to my father's sword fighting lessons, I tried desperately to fight my way in. But I was no match for three dragonguards and I was bested quite easily."
Dracos grinds his teeth and his grey eyes burn with a fierce light. "They chased me off and I swore there and then to let no false dragon live while I breathe...." Dracos takes a deep breath and says, "The man who I still call my father died an hour later, in sight of the Ofcol gates. I miss him greatly. A few minutes later the gates swung open and stubborn and heartbroken as I was, I still went to the Temple of Balance,.... maybe there was something those priests could do, but all the high-priest could say was that my father was at peace now, and that he sheltered in the palm of the Creator's hand."
"I broke down in the temple; the death of my father, what he had said during those dreams, the exhausting march through the night...it was too much and I blurted it all out. The high-priest took pity on me, and offered me a place in his temple. So the next couple of years I learned the arts of healing and tried to master the sword as best as I could, in remembrance of my 'father'. I became a full member of the Order of Balance, and during this time I worshipped Lord Tokugawa, the God of Balance. Lord Tokugawa showed me the importance of the balance between good and evil. He thought me that if the Balance was to fall, the Realm would suffer dearly. A Long time after following balance Tokugawa was raised higher up the ranks of immortality for his works, however his followers were left to seek out there destiny on there own."
"I felt the pattern of the web tugging at me and left Ofcol, for without the Order, there was nothing left to stay for. I wandered the world, not forgetting my vow to slay every dragon I could find. I wandered where the wind blew me, and so -not surprisingly- I found Lord Nicademus, God of the Wind. His ways fascinated me and I became a servant of Nicademus. Along with the rest of the Windites, I struck out at the evil which was trying to destroy the realm.
"But somehow the winds suddenly stopped taking me around the world. And with the wind leaving, so did it's God."
"Still feeling the pull of the Pattern, hearing the echo's of Tokugawa's words on Balance and the whispers of the Wind, I felt a strong urge to balance out the good I did, and so I joined the evils of Bliss, A Goddess whom Dracos had known when She was mortal. Bliss offered everything I had wanted within a following. But the longer I stayed there, the more I felt the pull towards balance; the Way-in-between. The longer I was Coven, the more I saw how wrong they were. The Cabal had always been there, but I was blind to it, for life was so easy and nice if you did not listen to your conscience."
You look at Dracos and he smiles.
"Then one day, when I felt the Pattern pulling at me really well, this young Drow comes along. The first thing she says to me is "You are the Dragon, my Dragon" ...and it felt...right."
Dracos stands at ease for he first time since he entered the temple. A tension seems to have left him. For an instant the stone face changes into a warm smile, an instant, then it was granite again.
"For the first time I 'listened' to what the Pattern was trying to tell me all along... I am the Dragon, I am the kin-slayer....The Dragon-slayer ... I believe it...no... I know it now. My place is here, defending the Pattern...against those Fire breathing beasts that can harm it so easily."
Dracos looks around, and finally looks down, at the center of the Sigla on which he stands and whispers "My place is here, Mother... I am home"

Short Desc: (Curled) a sleeping bronze dragonette Long Desc: long Curled into a neat coil, this dragonette is fast asleep... or is he? Look Dragonette: This small dragonette is coiled about the neck of his bonded companion, and appears to be dead asleep, snoozing after a good meal. However, the sound of your movement alerts him, and one brilliant jade eye opens and gazes directly at you, keenly aware of the slightest indication that an assault upon his friend might be imminent. Look Tirdin: The dragonette slowly blinks back the inner membrane of his eyes, making the bright jade of them flash and reflect. His talons extend slightly, a soft, eerie scratching noise whispering up from the firm leather padding on his owner's doublet, and a clear warning is given of his willingness to watch and ward and protect his friend. * Do Not Even THINK about it,* he says in your mind, hissing softly and baring small but completely effective fangs. * I bite. And while you would not be tasty, I can always wash out my mouth. * He makes a soft, hissing sound that can only be interpreted as a chuckle.
