Official Information

ADOPT
Syntax: ADOPT <PetName>

If you are in the presence of a mob that deals in pets, this command will allow
you to adopt on provided you are allowed the specific pet he handles.

Pets can be adopted at various places around the MUD. Each class is paired with a
specific type of pet, or is barred from having pets, as listed below.

Warriors: falcons
Shamans: snakes
Thieves: ferrets
Mages: owls
Rangers: wolves
Clerics and Ordained are not allowed pets.

Multi-classed players may have a pet allowed by any of their classes.

Help PET:

Pets can be adopted at various places around the MUD. Each class is paired with a specific type of pet, or is barred from having pets, as listed below:

Warriors are allowed falcons, Shamans are allowed snakes, Thieves are allowed ferrets, Mages are allowed owls, and Rangers are allowed wolves. Clerics and Ordained are not allowed pets. Multi-classed players may have a pet allowed by any of their classes.

People that own pets are responsible for them, and are required to care for them. Your pet is yours for life (meaning it will save with you if it is in the same room you are in when you quit), and should you lose your pet, you will be barred from having another until they convince a god+ you are worthy of another. Additionally, it has been known to be QUITE hazardous to one's health to abuse your pets...so keep any pet you adopt as happy as possible!

Pets are commanded by order, but not all orders will be obeyed (ie: Pets are not allowed eq of any kind, so they will not follow an order of GET <Item>.) And as with any other "charmed" creature, if your pet is attacked, you are attacked as well.

HELP PET CARE:

Pets require care. Specifically, you must take care of their earthly needs, namely food, water and companionship. Pet food is available at any of the places you can adopt a pet, and pets will only drink water. Should you give them anything other than the proper food or a drink other than water, they will refuse it and consider it abuse. They also get upset if you leave them alone for too long. As it is dangerous to abuse your pet, be careful.

To feed a pet, place the pet food on the ground and order the pet to eat it. Similarly, to give them water, take them to a fountain or place a drink container on the ground and order them to drink.
