Hey, Cordir, nice to "see" you. :-) Tynian

:* Nice to be able to come and visit. I'm not really familiar with Wikis, but I'll see what I can't contribute... Thank you for the warm welcome! :) Cordir

Wow, lots of material!  Thanks for getting all of this posted.  Tynian 13:21, 15 January 2011 (MST)

:* My pleasure. Seemed a waste not to get it posted somewhere, since I've hoarded it all these years... ;) Cordir

Well, I'm not sure how much good it's doing to look through all this stuff.  It just makes me sad, everyone that I knew that have moved on.  I guess there's a dark side to history. Tynian 17:07, 17 January 2011 (MST)
* Hi Cordir - What do you think of implementing some sort of entry requirements for the "People" page? Rath
:* I guess I look at it like this: The richness of TFC's history is something to be celebrated: whether it happened yesterday or ten years ago. Yes, many have moved on.. but still others find it, and some of our oldest players are still visiting regularly. :)  And besides - this wiki is going to give me an excuse to bug some old friends and nudge them this way to update stuffCordir
** I'm going to copy this over to the Discussion for the People page so we can get more feedbackAs for my opinion: I'll be honest, I don't much like the idea. Here's why: Who is to say who is important and who isn't? If we say, 'only level 40s' ... well, I would never have made it as a mortal. Nor would Nyx. Or Pez. Or Typhon. Or a large number of other really awesome, notable, historical folks. I think if someone wants to put in the work to create a page, then no matter who the subject is, then great! ===2.x stuff===
There's no easy way to find out the original creation date for a 2.x character, since we didn't start keeping track of it until 3.0.  Backups from the 2.x era are lost, sadly enough.  Drive space was at a premium back then.  I think I may have copied some backups off to tape... only I have not been able to successfully read those tapes.  The only readable backup I have found was the one right before version 3 went live, which is not helpful to your needs.Tynian

:* : Aw, drat. :(  Thanks, though. :)

Quiller
Quiller was a Demigod whose character was shared out to another player, and was deleted and sitebanned in June 1995.  Wizlist showed that he was evil, and immorted after Psykill and before Daliah. Tynian 15:01, 17 January 2011 (MST)

INFO PC template
Ha, I see you've noticed the INFO PC template.  I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
It is okay to use. Just keep in mind that I'm still refining it, so it might change some out from under you, and you might have to come back to the articles you've included it on to fix things up. Tynian 15:10, 17 January 2011 (MST)
:* Oops! *blush* Didn't realize I was jumping the gun. I'll stay aware that it may change. Thank you! Cordir
By and by, if you come across a template that has incorrect or missing information, and you have better info, feel free to edit it if you wish. The information I have is very sketchy.  Tynian 15:14, 17 January 2011 (MST)
:* Will do! Most of what I put up today was what I had on hand on a USB memory stick. I'll start doing some major file-rummaging to see if I can't find more stuff. :)Cordir
* On Info pc template, we should probably only supply information that we know. I took a peek at Khore's info, and to my way of thinking, the 'Unknown' lines don't add anything.  What do you think? Tynian 15:27, 18 January 2011 (MST)
* P.S. - I didn't mean to scare you off.

Templates and categories
* A list of categories can be found here:  http://wiki.tfcmud.com/index.php/Special:MostLinkedCategories
* A list of templates: http://wiki.tfcmud.com/index.php/Special:MostLinkedTemplates

Keep in mind that only some templates should be applied directly to articles, as some templates call other templates, and aren't meant to be called directly.  Templates should be categorized, so that the useful, directly applicable ones can easily be found.

Some categories are automatically added to an article by virtue of a template.  For example, the 'Info pc' template adds categories based on how it is filled out.  The Immortal and mortal categories are automatically added in such a way.  So is the race category, if race is provided.  I would suggest applying the Info pc info box to all characters, provide known information, and then preview the page.  You should see some categories specified way at the bottom of the preview, without having to manually add them. :*  Wonderful! Thank you, Tynian. I'll try not to break anything!! Cordir

Other templates
If you're feeling up to it, there are two other templates that may be of interest.  They aren't as refined, as I haven't applied them very often.  I haven't found their shortcomings yet.

* Template:Info area  - For areas
* Template:Info following - For followings

If you don't feel comfortable with them, no worries.  Just thought I'd mention them as options.  Tynian 15:45, 18 January 2011 (MST)

  • Hi Cordir - What do you think of implementing some sort of entry requirements for the "People" page? Rath
    • I'm going to copy this over to the Discussion for the People page so we can get more feedback. As for my opinion: I'll be honest, I don't much like the idea.
