The Office of Tokugawa This extremely large room is made of warm, honey-toned wood that calls to mind the Lightwood and Haon'Dor forests, making the vast space seem some- how warm and cozy despite its size. Tall, narrow windows of clear glass, bracketed by emerald green curtains made of some light, airy fabric, span nearly the full height of the walls, allowing amber sunlight to pour into the chamber. The width of the north wall is taken up with a gigantic map set in a wide frame and facing it is an oak desk with a golden marble top cluttered with countless piles of documents. A thick, soft rug of browns and greens is almost like the forest floor underfoot and a crackling fire in the hearth on the south wall fills the area with warmth. Look NORTH: The entire north wall is covered in a gigantic map, the detail of which is mind-boggling. Each and every town and village is represented, every forest and road as well. The oceans and the islands found therein are a bright detail, a tiny sailing ship seeming to move within the painting. The edges of the image seem to shift and stretch, as if the world itself was changing and growing as you gaze upon it. It would take mighty magic to create such an image! The frame of the map is gilded with gold and is carved with images of wood-nymphs and dryads. Look EAST: Three windows flank two bookshelves of a wood that nearly matches the walls. Books of all size, shape and age fill the shelves with barely a single place to fit in more. Leather bindings are ancient and cracked, the titles upon them in over a dozen languages. Some appear to be tales of ancient days, long forgotten by all but the eldest gods. Others are summaries of beasts to be found in each land. Another, under lock and key in a special case, reads, 'A Compendium of the Magical Artifacts of the World.' Look SOUTH: A large hearth of smooth, dark slate river rock contains a gently crackling fire, casting a warm glow over the old yet comfortable-looking chair, foot- stool and table that rest before it. A gnarled walking stick of black briar is leaning by the armrest of the chair. On the seat, a self-satisfied cat, her lovely tortoise-shell coat vibrant against the once loud but now faded purple cushions, purrs in a loud rumble. A steaming mug of something dark and fragrant waits atop the table. Look WEST: The west wall is a motley collage of momentos and paintings, each displayed in a frame or glass case. In one, a horned 'Viking' hat with only one horn. In another, a long glossy feather, still bearing traces of sensual perfume. A replica of the Executioner's Axe hangs from a set of hooks; a phrase was carved on the haft: WE DID IT FIRST! The name, 'Welverin' was added in ink underneath. Two paintings are larger than the rest: One depicts a group of people kneeling or standing around a man wearing a Judge's robes. In this portrait, Tokugawa is mature and seasoned, his twin weapons sheathed at his hips, a forest-green cloak around his broad shoulders. The second portrait is an equally large group, arranged around another human Deity. In it, the future Lord of Balance stands at Foolkiller's right hand. His silvery hair is bound back from his face, and his blue eyes twinkle with wry humor. The centermost case bears two crystalline teardrops, eternally encircling each other. Another small display contains a lump of dirt: the worn brass plaque on the front reads, 'Younger Than Toku!' Look UP: The rafters of the chamber are far above, framing a stained glass window in the center which depicts two intertwined drops of water. In one corner of the ceiling, where the beams meet the roof, a mated pair of birds has crafted a nest out of what appears to be strips of parchment. Their song is a soft melody that adds to the warm, outdoorsy feel to the structure. In the opposite corner, a small black spider spins a complex web between two of the beams. Look DOWN: Underfoot, a thick, luxurious carpet of muted greens and browns covers the golden marble floor almost completely. Only a thin border of stone is visible at the edges of the room. Paths have been worn in the rug, creating the illusion of trails winding through a forest. They lead from the desk to the fireplace, the map, and the bookshelves. Look honey wood: The wood of the walls and ceiling above are narrow planks of a light colored wood. It appears to have been hand cut and each is fitted to the next as perfectly as the deck of a ship. The golden color of the planks reminds you of the ancient trees of the Lightwood and Haon'Dor forests. Look curtains fabric: The weave of the curtain fabric is light and open, not tight and dense. A pattern within the fabric indicates, more through movement and form, than actual deliberate weaving, the subtle overlay of leaves upon a tree branch. Look hearth fire: The flat stones of the hearth are polished smooth, but yet one side seems to have been worn a bit more than the others. Perhaps it is a spot where someone stands and leans against the rocks, staring down into the flames. A small basket beside the hearth holds extra wood; another contains the makings for a sticky treat of marshmallows and chocolate and crackers. A kettle hangs from a hook inside the hearth, merrily bubbling away. The fragrant scent of herbs, vegetables and meat wafts up from the iron cookpot. Look desk: This enormous desk has well over a dozen drawers and equally as many piles of paper atop it. Thinly scraped parchments of all sizes form stacks across the surface. Some appear to be shipping manifests for goods, whereas others may be the notes of explorers. A map or two is visible on the desk's surface, partially hidden by the many papers, but they are of lands that are not yet represented on the huge map on the wall. A small handwritten note in an ancient hand lists some places in the world of particular danger. Some have been crossed out, but others still remain. One is circled: "The Courtyard." Look map world: This map is well over fifty feet high and an equal span wide, filling the entire end of the chamber. It has been inked on what appears to be white dragon hide, scraped and treated to form an exquisitely pure parchment. The pigments used have been agumented with ground gemstone, making them bright and vibrant. Look rug carpet: The carpet underfoot is thick and luxurious, causing you to sink in almost to your ankles. The fibers are two-toned: Emerald green on top and a rich, earthy brown below, creating the visual illusion that you are walking through a field of vibrant grass. Look paintings paintings: Several paintings hang within the display: * Tokugawa standing amidst Cerebus' Court of Justice. * Tokugawa at Foolkiller's right hand, first among the Trinity. * Tokugawa, having defeated the Midgaard Assassin with the help of Daris, Krazor, Myronides and Talen * Tokugawa and a stunningly lovely half-elven woman wearing a mage's robes. * Tokugawa with his arms clasped loosely around an amethyst-eyed lady Warric. * Tokugawa bowing before Khore as he is made Attendant to the Kindred. * Tokugawa accepting the worship of the first of those dedicated to Balance. Look display case cases: A number of display cases of various shapes and sizes hang on the wall: * A lump of dirt, proclaimed, 'Younger than Toku!' * A Viking hat with one horn, autographed by Zarous. * A tickling feather, still scented with a sensual perfume. * A size triple-D ladies breastplate Look cat tortoise-shell: Stretching langorously, this kitty knows that the true owner of this comfy chair is the one that occupies it! Look books bookshelves: Easily hundreds of books cover these shelves, on a wide variety of topics. If only you dared peek inside! What a compilation of lore and knowledge they must contain!
