I think this is a great idea and I for one am going to do so. Any ideas one a sales pitch Ilian..??.. Perhaps just avoid telling them why
more and more players are retiring. Let's not make this a TFC bashing note, because TFC was always a good hobby. But let's talk about why everyone is leaving so we can decide how to get more people to play. Other muds have 300 players at any given time, so it's not the player market.
I am open to listening here, but perhaps the fun was sucked out by the imbalance. or perhaps, and god forbid this message stay on the note list. perhaps small injustices in management have accumulated to the point where the gods now rule a populationless world, for we are not bound here. You may argue, if I don't like it here or it's so unfair, why do I stay long enough to post this message. The answer is simple. Hope for what the game once was. and I feel I can say that not because I am a 1x player, but because I have seen many brighter days.
Clearly it can't be all bad. I mean you keep coming back, after several retirements. Maybe that's why people keep leaving, lovely notes from such charming people. I would pay new people to play if they would site ban people like you.
I think Ilian's idea is a great one as well, and have already invited others here today. Personally I think that if people want more people to play, they need to play more for longer periods themselves (like Pol does) as opposed to logging on, doing a who, and logging off (like 3 others have done just during the time it's taken me to write this note -- which wasn't a very long time.)
It's depressing to logon and read a note like yours Rincewind, look around and see no one visible (perhaps because of your player level, perhaps because only a few people are here...).
What's interesting to me is that last month I'd logon and find 15-20 people on, and this month I logon and find 2-8. What's changed in May? Anyone have any ideas? The only change I've noticed recently is that a new (very nice) area was installed, and I'm CERTAIN that is not the cause. I noticed that Legolas stopped playing awhile back when his (great) idea of a sparring tournament met with a bunch of people saying "yes!" and no one showing up. I noticed that some people's real lives have just gotten too busy (new kids, moving, deaths, new jobs, new romanace, you name it.)
At any rate, my idea is "play more, for longer periods, while visible unless you're in the vortex".

Current Description:

The man before you embodies the word 'imposing.' His body has been shaped by
thousands of battles over the decades, like a sword honed and formed on the
anvil of evil. His head is cleanly shaven, a complex series of dark patterns
inked upon the bare flesh. The marks travel the span of his neck to disappear
under the well-worn, combat-scarred armor he wears but glimpses can be seen on
his hands, the bits and pieces hinting at a more complex whole.
