			I had been dormant longer than I could recall - which, in this case, was literal. When I shook the moss and dirt free from my skin after so many seasons, all my memories were gone. The hermit was gone. The weaver was gone. The scribe was gone.
			<BR><BR>
			A group of elves took me in, and there I lived cradled in safety for some time, sheltered from the threats of the world. Without a past, without anything I had taught myself of fighting or locks or magic. Helpless and carefree, protected by the elves. Until one day the vampire came.
			<BR><BR>
			He made no attack on the homestead, so they didn't ride out against him. But he watched. Timeless patience. For weeks. My curiosity overcame my good sense, as it does. And so a month later I slipped out one night to gather moon lily and to see him closer. He spoke a name.
			<BR><BR>
			Heart in my throat, I fled back towards safety. But when I looked back he hadn't moved. A light coating of pollen dusted his skin from how still he sat all spring. I went back. His skin was pale, inked beneath with dark veins at his wrists. Closer, he seemed tired. Weak. He needed to feed.
			<BR><BR>
			I circled around him, the movement of my passage stirring the air and sending puffs of pollen from his skin. That's when I smelled it. The mustiness of old tomes. The murky flatness of wet ink. The word was pulled from my lips, "Cirth."
			<BR><BR>
			Suddenly I remembered everything, as history and memories flooded back with a jolt. I was Corri, and the nameless curiosity in front of me was now Cirth the Pale, scribe of the Kindred. I flung myself into his arms with a strangled cry of delight and shock. A slow smile of contented satisfaction lifted his lips and his hands came up to cradle my neck as we held each other close.
			<BR><BR>
			No matter how many seasons I am burrowed in the woods, no matter how long my memories are lost - my scribe holds my past like he holds the history of so much else. He keeps it all safe, held in his heart, unlocked by the simple key of his scent. We are together once more.
			<BR><BR>
			Magic crackles at my fingertips, as I murmur against his skin. "Come, love. You've grown weak. Let me hunt for you."
