The TFC MUD uses a custom calendar system and a pulse/tick mechanism to advance in-game time. This section explains the structure of the calendar, the tick system, and how it relates to real-life (RL) time. <h3>2. Tick and Pulse System</h3>

The in-game time does not advance uniformly by 1 hour. Instead, it follows a specific cycle of "pulses" that advance MUD hours in increments of 2 or 3 hours. This system creates a repeating pattern that keeps the MUD time in sync with internal mechanics.

<h3>3. Relationship to Real-Life Time</h3>

MUD hours pulse to the game in alternating "long" and "short" pulses. Long pulses average ~127.966 seconds and short pulses average ~64.1 seconds, though there are fluctuations within each subset and it appears that the MUD code has mechanisms in place to add slight randomness while still controlling for drift.

Using measurements of MUD ticks and hour advances, the following approximations can be made for real-life durations:

It is impossible to see where the fire begins and ends: it is a continuous
stream of movement, wild and chaotic. These are the flames of creation and
of death, sacred and profane. These fires witnessed the birth of worlds, a
rebirth, a sanctification. They have danced within sacred spaces and holy
grounds. They have borne witness to prophesy and pain, been balm to hearts
shattered and broken.
 
===a biologically impossible twig===

Long Description: A nightwood twig screams of ecological invalidity and biological impossibility.

LOOK twig nightwood
Torn from a pale nightwood sapling, this twig would make a fine play-toy for a
child or create hours of distraction for a pet. But in the right hands, however,
it is a deadly weapon, capable of tearing flesh from bone. But that's a horrid
prospect, so instead, lets imagine delightful children, like Beemo, enjoying it.

LOOK ecological invalidity
It is unkind to ignore the impact that improper usage of terms has on those who
are learned. For example, to refer to a limb that has been torn from a sapling,
as anything other than a twig or small branch, could cause great consternation,
much less referencing it as a staff stout enough to cause damage. Assuredly, a
sapling's limb that was staff-like, would be entirely ecologically invalid.
 

===a perfect, elegant black silk bow tie===

Long Description: The classic shape of a hand-knotted bow tie lies here, carelessly discarded.

LOOK TIE:
The black-on-black pattern woven into the fabric is terribly clever - almost
cunning. Spider webs form the background with playfully illustrated Amanita
phalloides in the foreground. The overall impression is one of subtlty with
humor, yet this neckwear would not be out of place at the most elegant event,
from weddings to funerals and anything in between. One tiny bloodstain mars
the left corner.

LOOK SILK
Impossible to mistake for any lesser fabric, this tie is made of the rarest
of materials: Yochlol silk.

LOOK AMANITA PHALLOIDES
Tiny little smirks and grins are visible on the 'faces' of the Amanita phalloides
as they dance in alternating rows across the ties. Their little 'feet' are shod,
in oversized and comical oxfords, bow ties around their throats. In each 'hand' a
leering skull is held.

pyramid to the west and the swaying palms, is a delight after the
unrelenting heat of the desert sands. This appears to be the focal
point of the oasis, from the number of tribesfolk wandering by, or
resting on one of the colorful goat-hair rugs scattered about. The
sounds of voices emerges from each of the tents nearby, as they go
about their day. The pathway out of the oasis lies to the west and
a refreshing pool of water lies to the south. North and east, open
doorways lead to family tents.
The sky is cloudless and a cold northern gust blows.

Browning in the sun, this fallen palm frond lays discarded on the ground.
Made of thin boughs lashed together, this drying rack holds strips of meat.

Subtly lavish, this chamber has only three sleeping pallets, each on a
frame of palm wood to raise them off the carpeted floor. Fragrant smoke
rises from a charcoal brazier set with cones of incense atop a table of
palm wood, covered in a brightly woven cloth. The rarity of a polished
mirror hangs from one of the tent poles and metal rods jut out from the
other poles, providing a spot to hang clothes.

center of the oasis is a pool, a low stone wall enclosing it protectively.
Its waters are essential for life, and there are footprints all around it,
leading in all directions. A small lizard suns itself upon the rocks, and
someone's washing rests in a basket by a small side-pool created for that
purpose.

stream of movement, wild and chaotic. These are the flames of creation and
of death, sacred and profane. These fires witnessed the birth of worlds, a
rebirth, a sanctification. They have danced within sacred spaces and holy
grounds. They have borne witness to prophesy and pain, been balm to hearts
shattered and broken.

Long Description: A nightwood twig screams of ecological invalidity and biological impossibility.

LOOK twig nightwood
Torn from a pale nightwood sapling, this twig would make a fine play-toy for a
child or create hours of distraction for a pet. But in the right hands, however,
it is a deadly weapon, capable of tearing flesh from bone. But that's a horrid
prospect, so instead, lets imagine delightful children, like Beemo, enjoying it.

LOOK ecological invalidity
It is unkind to ignore the impact that improper usage of terms has on those who
are learned. For example, to refer to a limb that has been torn from a sapling,
as anything other than a twig or small branch, could cause great consternation,
much less referencing it as a staff stout enough to cause damage. Assuredly, a
sapling's limb that was staff-like, would be entirely ecologically invalid.

The black-on-black pattern woven into the fabric is terribly clever - almost
cunning. Spider webs form the background with playfully illustrated Amanita
phalloides in the foreground. The overall impression is one of subtlty with
humor, yet this neckwear would not be out of place at the most elegant event,
from weddings to funerals and anything in between. One tiny bloodstain mars
the left corner.

LOOK SILK
Impossible to mistake for any lesser fabric, this tie is made of the rarest
of materials: Yochlol silk.

LOOK AMANITA PHALLOIDES
Tiny little smirks and grins are visible on the 'faces' of the Amanita phalloides
as they dance in alternating rows across the ties. Their little 'feet' are shod,
in oversized and comical oxfords, bow ties around their throats. In each 'hand' a
leering skull is held.
