Character History:

(Written for "Cleon 2.0," for entry into the Chosen of Fate)
The Past:

Cleon Venabali enjoyed a peaceful childhood in a modest dwelling in Harper's Landing. His father owned a small bakery in the town for over 30 years, before selling it to the current proprietor, Sally. Cleon's mother and father planned to make the arduous journey to the South Continent and take up residence in the half-elf town of Safehaven, to retire by the sea. A strong young man of seventeen at the time, Cleon chose instead to move to the nearby city of Midgaard, in search of a career and, more importantly, the companionship of travelers from both Continents.

He dabbled briefly with the Church, training as a priest, but his lust for knowledge and adventure soon led him to travel further, often staying away from his new hometown for many months at a time. During his travels, Cleon discovered a multitude of flora and fauna, sleeping in the open with little regard for his own safety. He caroused with wandering elves, learned the art of mining from dwarves and sparred with barbarian ogres. His most treasured lesson, however, was that of the value of life, and the right of each individual to choose their own path.

Still an adventurer, Cleon's life has for many years been dedicated to the exploration of the Realm, and to furthering his knowledge of all who inhabit it. He values the company of others, and firmly believes that all have wisdom and knowledge to contribute.

My New Road:

My past life has been that of an adventurer, and I continue to enjoy exploring the wildernesses of both Continents. Nothing comes close to the sense of freedom given by standing atop a rocky mountain, above the clouds, other peaks dark icebergs in a sea of white. On clear nights, gazing upon constellations of stars, I often wonder whether there are more worlds to wander.

The life the of the wanderer is not all romance and poetry, however. As a naïve young man, just embarking on my adventuring 'career', I learned the hard way that some people live only for what they can gain by exploiting others. Many times I was beaten and robbed, usually whilst in foreign towns. My clerical training was of little use though, so I sought training in the Warrior Guilds of the Northern Continent. Now, more warrior than priest, I am able to defend myself from every mortal threat – at least long enough to escape danger. I have no pre-conceptions, however. No man or woman is "guilty by association" and all have the opportunity to prove themselves to be honorable and "good". That said, my trust is hard-won, and my forgiveness more so.

I prefer no companion to one I cannot trust. Increasingly, though, I do crave the company of others – a sense of belonging – of kinship. Seldom actually alone, I find myself occasionally lonely – my natural family a childhood memory. This is why I seek to join the Chosen of Fate. Considered to be the closest and most committed of all the followings in the Realm, a better 'family' I could not hope to find.

As one of the Chosen, I would offer aid and support to my younger 'siblings', and take every opportunity to learn from those more experienced than myself. While my first thought would be for my fellow Chosen, this would not be to the detriment of others deserving of my advice and assistance. Above all, I would honor, serve and obey my Lady Cordir.

Geasa:

Cleon says (in common), 'I swear ALWAYS to respond to any request for directions within the Realm.'
